The UHSAA decided today that Skyridge High School will be competing in the 4A classification in Region 7 for the 2016-2017 school year.

The following are the dates and times for the distribution of registration materials for Skyridge High School, 2016-2017:
CURRENT 11th grade students (Class of 2017): There will be an assembly on TUESDAY, JANUARY 26 at noon (during FLEX time) in the Lehi High auditorium.
CURRENT 10th grade students (Class of 2018): There will be an assembly on THURSDAY, JANUARY 28 at noon (during FLEX time) in the Lehi High auditorium.
Skyridge counselors will be available on FEBRUARY 2 and 4 at Lehi High during FLEX in the WRITING LAB to answer questions and help with course requests.
CURRENT 9th grade students (Class of 2019): For those who attend Willowcreek Middle School, there will be an assembly on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 3 during Pride Time (9:40-10:15am). For those who attend Lehi Junior High, there will be a FLEX assembly on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 3 during FLEX (11:30am-noon).
CURRENT 8th grade students (Class of 2020): For those who attend Lehi Junior High, letters with registration information were sent home during the week of January 19-22 in US HISTORY classes. For those who attend Willowcreek Middle School, registration materials will be sent home during SCIENCE classes on February 3 and 4. Parent meetings will be held in the Lehi Junior High auditorium at 7pm on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, in the Willowcreek Middle School auditorium on THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11 at 6:30pm, and in the Lehi Junior High auditorium on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 12 at 7AM. (yes, that is IN THE MORNING)
Skyridge counselors will be available at LEHI HIGH on February 10 from 3-7pm (during parent-teacher conferences) and at LEHI JUNIOR HIGH on FEBRUARY 18 from 3-7pm (during parent-teacher conferences) to answer questions. The course catalog will be available online early next week.
(current 7th grade students (Class of 2021) who live in Traverse Mountain and who will attend Lehi Junior High next year will have a presentation during their College and Career Awareness Class at Willowcreek Middle School on either February 9 or 10 and will bring home their registration materials that day)

We will be holding assemblies for future SKYRIDGE students regarding registration and course availability next week. Current 11th grade students (class of 2017) will meet on TUESDAY, January 26 at noon in the auditorium at Lehi High. Current 10th grade students (class of 2018) will meet on THURSDAY, January 28 at noon in the auditorium at Lehi High. Registration materials will be explained and distributed at that time. The tentative course catalog will be available on the official website early next week. Information about assemblies and parent meetings for current 8th (class of 2020) and 9th (class of 2019) grade students will be coming soon.
On Tuesday night, the ASD Board approved a plan to help accommodate the growth in north Lehi. The plan is as follows: In order to provide optimal learning environments for students in the growing area of north Lehi, Skyridge High School will open with grades 9-12 in 2016. Also beginning in 2016, students at Traverse Mountain Elementary will feed to Lehi Junior High (no longer Willowcreek Middle). While Willowcreek will maintain grades 7-9, Lehi Junior will house only 7th and 8th grades. In order to accommodate 9th grade students at Skyridge, Alpine School District will add 16 brick and mortar classrooms using capital outlay funds.
Realigning students from Traverse Mountain into Lehi Junior and then to Skyridge relieves pressure on a growing Willowcreek Middle until a new middle school can open, anticipated in 2019. Alpine School District remains committed to providing safe physical facilities that accommodate growing numbers of students and allow full access to a comprehensive curriculum.
Within the next two weeks, a 2016-2017 course catalog will be published on our official website. Skyridge counselors will be holding assemblies with students to give an overview of registration procedures and course offerings. A nighttime parent meeting will be held at a future date.

ennyLynn Meek first became involved in the sport of color guard while attending Pleasant Grove High School. After graduating, she attended UVU and was a member of their ballroom dance tour team. She then attended BYU, where she majored in dance education and was a member of the BYU color guard. She began coaching color guard in 1997, and has coached at Pleasant Grove, American Fork, Riverton, and is currently the head color guard coach at Lehi High School. Her teams consistently place in the top of their division and are well respected among the other color guard teams in the state. This past season, the LHS color guard took the state championship title and went undefeated in their division.
JennyLynn loves coaching and mentoring her students. She believes that teaching her students how to respect others, work hard, be responsible, and be kind to others is as important as teaching them how to dance and spin a flag. She feels confident that she can create an award winning color guard at Skyridge and is excited to be a part of the Skyridge team.
JennyLynn loves to ride her bike, dance, choreograph innovative routines, and spend time with her family. She is also OBSESSED with anything Disney and considers Main Street Disneyland her happy place. She currently lives in Lehi with her husband and their four children.
December 18, 2015—Lehi, Utah
Dennis Meyring has been hired as the Swim Coach for Skyridge High School, currently under construction in Lehi, Utah. The school will open in August 2016.
Coach Meyring is currently serving as the head swim coach and government teacher for both Lehi and Westlake High Schools. When Westlake opened, he embraced this dual role to help build Westlake’s program while continuing to coach at Lehi. He will once again divide his attentions (this time between Lehi and Skyridge) to help build a new high school swim program at Skyridge. Of this new challenge, he says, “It is always exciting to contribute to a new beginning with opportunity for traditions to begin and standards to be established.”
Meyring has been coaching swimming for over 45 years, and has spent the last 22 years at Lehi High. He has been named the UHSAA “Coach of the Year” four times, has helped the Pioneers win 15 Region Championships, and has guided the team to 2nd place in State three times. Prior to coming to Lehi High, Coach Meyring coached for ten years in Oxnard, California and was a graduate assistant coach at BYU.
Coach Meyring was born and raised in Vallejo, California and attended Vallejo College, where he was a five time All American swimmer. He then attended BYU, where he was the WAC Champion in the 200 yd butterfly, 200 yd IM, and 400 yd IM (the first swimmer to win three events in a conference meet). He also qualified for AAU Nationals and the US Olympic Trials and competed in the NCAA Championships. He was named the BYU “Athlete of the Week” on two occasions. He set several high school and collegiate swim records and was the team captain every year in high school and college.
When describing his coaching philosophy, Meyring says, “Swimming requires dedication, commitment and hard work over a long period of time. The program should reinforce the values taught in the home and allow athletes to experience challenges at a higher level and realize the rewards from their efforts. They should come away with lifetime tools that will bring success.”
Skyridge Principal Joel Perkins says, “Coach Meyring is a legend in the swim community, and I am super excited that he is going help us build an amazing swim program at Skyridge. He invests so much in his student athletes and believes in the value of hard work and dedication.”
Coach Meyring graduated from BYU with a major in physical education and a minor in social studies. He and his wife Vicki have twelve children and 32 grandchildren, who are the highlight of his life. He loves vintage cars, and has restored two of his own original vehicles.
There will be a public input meeting on Monday, December 14, from 4-6pm at Lehi Junior High to discuss the proposed plan to accommodate growth in north Lehi. At the input meeting, there will be District employees available to answer questions, but there will be no formal presentation. Written input is encouraged.

Counseling: Lynn Meek
Lynn Meek will be the head of the Counseling Department. For the past 24 years, he has been a counselor at Lehi Junior High, spending more than 20 of those years as head counselor. Prior to that, he taught social studies courses at Lakeridge Junior High. He loves playing and coaching sports, and spent five years coaching freshman basketball for both boys and girls, and many years coaching community recreation teams in soccer, basketball, and flag football. He has a bachelor’s degree from BYU in social studies education, and a master’s degree from BYU in educational psychology: counseling and guidance.
Meek grew up in Preston, Idaho. He and his wife, Heidi, have four children and have lived in Lehi for the past 21 years. In his free time, he likes reading, gardening, hiking, Scouting, and spending time with his family.
Join us on Wednesday (November 18) at 6pm at Lehi Junior High School to meet our recently announced coaches. Come meet our coaches for baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, cheer, cross country, drill team, golf, football, marching band, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. We’ll start in the auditorium for a brief introduction of each coach, and then we will move to the cafeteria so that students and parents can have the opportunity to interact directly with the coaches and ask questions. November 13, 2015–Lehi, Utah 
Deanna Meyer has been hired as the Head Volleyball Coach for Skyridge High School, currently under construction in Lehi, Utah. The school will open in August 2016.
Coach Meyer is one of the most successful high school volleyball coaches in state history. Meyer won five state titles with the Lone Peak program and finished second four other times. Her teams made 10 straight appearances to the semifinal round, and under her direction, the Knights placed in the top eight 14 times during her 16 years as head coach. Meyer has an overall coaching record of 366-164, including an impressive 46-12 record in state tournament competition. Meyer has been recognized as the 4A and 5A Coach of the Year, and has been named as the top coach by the National Federation of High Schools for Utah. Over her career Coach Meyer has coached 5 high school All Americans, and has had over 40 players move on and play collegiate sports.
As a student at Skyline High School, Meyer lettered in volleyball, basketball, softball, and track. During her time at Skyline, the Eagles took 1st, 2nd, and 4th in state volleyball tournaments. She received a full academic scholarship to the University of Utah, where she focused her attention on scholastics.
Though Meyer has had incredible and consistent success at Lone Peak High School, she is very excited about accepting a new challenge. She says, “I am excited about the opportunity to become a Skyridge Falcon and starting up a program at a new school. To be part of the founding teachers and staff and creating traditions and establishing a school community that brings out the best in everyone is a wonderful opportunity and challenge I look forward to undertaking.”
Skyridge Principal Joel Perkins is grateful to have Coach Meyer as part of the coaching team. He says, “Deanna is a very successful and established science teacher and volleyball coach. She brings great dedication to her craft and to her student athletes. Despite much success, she is a student of the game and is constantly looking for areas of improvement. She loves the student athletes with whom she works, and truly wants to help them succeed both on and off the court.”
Coach Meyer has a bachelor’s degree in health education and a master’s degree in science education. She currently teaches Chemistry and Earth Science at Lone Peak, where she also previously taught Biology, Astronomy, Meteorology, and Health Education. She credits much of her success as a coach to her husband John for his incredible support. The Meyers have three daughters and live in Cedar Hills.
November 12, 2015–Lehi, Utah
Lindsay Rawstorne has been hired as the Tenn
is Coach for Skyridge High School, currently under construction in Lehi, Utah. The school will open in August 2016.
Coach Rawstorne has been a tennis instructor for the past 25 years, and a tennis director for 23 years. He has coached players of all ages for club teams, state teams (Team Utah), and sectional teams (Zonals teams). He is a certified USPTA Elite Professional and has coached many nationally ranked junior players.
Rawstorne has played tennis for the past 40 years, starting when he lived in France. He collected four national titles before coming to the United States, and played collegiately for two years at Weber State University and two years for the University of Utah. His highest ranking was #20 in Singles and #11 in Doubles in the NCAA Division I. He also played briefly on the ATP tour.
Rawstorne is anxious for the opportunity to work with Skyridge student athletes. He says, “I am very excited for this opportunity to form a team of young players who want to achieve their best. Our players will be very well prepared and will have a great time training.”
Speaking about the philosophy he will bring to Skyridge High, Rawstorne says, “We will play the game of tennis the right way with integrity. Students will play for their teammates and represent our school with the highest standards. We will have a no-cut policy where everyone can be part of the team. Our team selection will be clear and based on merit; every player will have the opportunity to compete for a Varsity spot. I believe that hard work is always rewarded in some form.”
Skyridge Principal Joel Perkins says, “Lindsay is one of the most recognized tennis coaches in the western states. We are very excited about his desire to provide a positive tennis experience for all of his student athletes. He is an outstanding coach and recognizes the great importance of academics and school involvement for all students.”
Skyridge Athletic Director Mark Clinton says, “During the hiring process, the thing that stood out to me was that Coach Rawstorne has a deep understanding of closing the performance/potential gap. He feels that just being the best is not the same as giving it your best effort. He has the kind of experience as one of the finest teachers and professionals in the game. We look forward to his expertise in helping us develop our high school’s tennis teams and facilities.”
Rawstorne graduated with a bachelor degree in finance from the University of Utah. He is currently the manager/director of tennis at Ivory Ridge Tennis Club, located in Lehi, Utah. He has served on the USTA Junior committee for Utah and Intermountain for the past 10 years and is currently the chair for the Junior Competition Committee ITA.

November 11, 2015–Lehi, Utah
Jamie Alvizo has been named as the Cross Country Coach at Skyridge High School, currently under construction in Lehi, Utah. The school will open in August 2016.
Coach Alvizo has spent the last three years as a Cross Country coach at Lehi High School, and for the last two years has been the head coach. In her first year as the head coach, the men’s team finished the 3rd in the state 5A State Championships, and the women’s team finished in 5th place. This year, the men’s team was able to move up to 2nd place.
Alvizo is a graduate of Lehi High School, where she participated on the varsity soccer, swim, and track teams, and was a member of the orchestra. Until recently, Coach Alvizo held the LHS record for the 800m, which was broken last season by one of her own students. She competed for Southern Utah University on their cross country & track teams where she attended on an academic scholarship. She was named the Women’s Cross Country athlete of the year in 2010 following her win at the conference championships. She was a member of the All Conference Team for cross country for four years, and All Region team for two years. She also qualified for the NCAA Western Regional’s for Track & Field in 2012 and 2013, and ran a personal best time of 16:08 in the 5000m and 4:48 in the mile.
Alvizo is an exceptional educator. She is in her third year as a teacher at LHS, where she teaches sections of general Chemistry as well as AP Chemistry. She says, “I have been honored to return to my old high school and give back to programs that were so good to me. I will truly miss being in halls and that I once attended and working with so many amazing people, but I am excited for the opportunity to carry Lehi traditions to Lehi city’s new high school.”
Skyridge Principal Joel Perkins is pleased to have Alvizo as a member of the faculty and coaching staff. He says, “We are extremely excited that Jamie will be joining us at Skyridge. She is an outstanding Chemistry teacher, as well as a great coach who is very enthusiastic about her sport. Obviously she has been extremely successful, as evidenced by the recent 2nd place finish by the boys team.”
In summarizing her coaching philosophy, Alvizo reveals the mindset that has been the key to her success. “I am a firm believer in the power of dreams and hard work. My athletes know how important goal setting is to me and making the plans to achieve those goals! There is nothing more rewarding as a coach than seeing the look on an athlete’s face when they have achieved something they have put their mind to.”
Coach Alvizo has a bachelor degree in Chemistry with a minor in mathematics. She and her husband Jhoan live in Lehi.
November 11, 2015–Lehi, Utah
Kylie Ash has been hired as the Drill Team Coach for Skyridge High School, currently under construction in Lehi, Utah. The school will open in August 2016.
Coach Ash has been dancing for 19 years, including 15 years on a competition team. She graduated from Lehi High School where she was a member of the Pionettes team, and served as a co-captain her Junior year and captain her Senior year. During this time, she continued to dance at a studio, as well as on the Lehi Dance Company. She had the wonderful opportunity to perform in the 2002 Winter Olympics as a “Child of Light” dancer. She has also performed at “Stadium of Fire,” danced in the MTV movie “American Mall,” and appeared in several Disney Channel movies including “High School Musical,” “High School Musical 3, “The Hannah Montana Movie,” and “Minutemen.” After graduating from LHS, Kylie went on to dance for the Waukeenyans dance team at Southern Utah University, where she received recognition as one of the top ten collegiate dancers in the state.
Ash says it will be difficult to leave Lehi High. “Lehi is my home. I grew up in Lehi and graduated from Lehi High School. Seeing Lehi grow and progress is exciting. Leaving Lehi High School to work at Skyridge High School presents me with a great opportunity to be a part of something new. Building a legacy of greatness alongside my coworkers and teachers embodies who I am as an educator.”
Skyridge Principal Joel Perkins says, “Kylie is an amazing math teacher and drill team advisor. She brings great experience in maintaining a competitive drill team and we are confident that she will create a very successful drill team.”
Coach Ash will graduate this spring from UVU with a bachelor degree in mathematics education. She currently is an intern at Lehi High. She and her husband Clint reside in Lehi with their son.
